Artist Statement
I composed my piece to show the comparison between human and technological growth. I gathered different computer and printer parts and juxtaposed them with different objects representing the different ages of people: baby, child, teen, adult, and the elder years. I arranged the different human elements by the age they symbolized from the youngest at the bottom, because that’s where we start in life to the oldest at the top. To unify the piece I spray painted the whole thing except for specifically picked parts. After the painting process I reattached them and attached photographs of people at various life stages to the piece. This emphasizes the human and technology comparison. My goal was to show the viewer that not only humans grow, but so does the technological world forever intertwining them.
My Inspiration
My piece was inspired by Louis Nevelson. She was known for making her assymblages a single color, which I carried over to my piece. I chose Nevelson because it takes a bold artist with a deep sense of composition to be able to make a piece a single color and solely rely on composition to create contrast and variety. Another inspiring aspect about Nevelson was her ability to take objects and unite them to create something bigger than themselves.
A very interesting piece. I like the thought that went into the process
